I absolutely love Kelty's Wedding Photography. Her vintage, polaroid and saturated technique creates a unique style which make her work special. Her images are premeditated which is exactly how she creates a delicate, yet creative image. Once again, I'm attracted to her work by how Kelty uses natural lighting to correctly expose her subjects, or which the area she wants to be in focus. Another attraction from her work is the use of focal points and DOF used to frame the image. For example, within her portrait images a shallow depth of field is used, however within her landscape images, a deep depth of field is used, however the background is soft therefore still creating the focal point on the subjects.
I sent an e-mail to Kelty asking her about her work and I was fortunate to get a reply.

As well as speaking to someone in the profession, I also spoke to a couple of previous third years at Winchester, who also took their FYP in Business and Photography. I spoke to Jamie Blanshard and Kayleigh Carter who both decided to look into either business of photography for their FYP, and as I am going to do both, I would e-mail them about their experiences into this type of FYP.

From speaking to Jamie, I learnt how important it is for me to find my USP. There are many wedding photographers in England alone, and I need to find something that isn't often offered with this service. From looking at many wedding photographers they tend to have a premeditated style, yet from my questionnaire most people preferred a photojournalist style of photography.

Survey Monkey
Before starting my business, I decided to create a survey to decided on what I would offer my customers. I only asked a few questions as these days people don't seem to have enough time to answer long questionnaires. I asked people ages 20-60 to answer this questionnaire. Here were my findings for the wedding photography:

As expected, Wedding Photography is one of the highest priorities of a persons wedding. No one wanted to pay higher than £1000 with the majority of people wanting to pay around £600 for a full days coverage with a CD of edited images. When asking what people would expect most out of a photographer, the majority of people wanted them to be in the background of the wedding, yet catching the most memorable moments. Some people also said that they would like a unique style to the images, thats when I though of the Instagram phase.
Here are my results for the christening photography:

I was quite surprised to see that the majority of the people I asked wouldn't consider hiring a Christening Photographer as I feel this is an incredibly important day for your child. If people were to consider hiring a Christening Photographer, they would only want to pay a small fee of about £100, which by the time you add up the hours spent at the christening, time editing the images and then your travel costs you may actually not make much of a profit. Although, when people stated what they would look for in a Christening Photographer they would want someone friendly and confident which I feel I could bring to the business. I think Christening Photography will have to be something I really think about.
